Bamboo has the ability to grow everywhere, it is the world’s fastest growing grass. Imagine if it could be used for anything more than making road sticks and fishing rods. Imagine if you could make bikes out of bamboo … Now that’s reality
With this idea, a number of different projects have emerged. A fascinating result has been bamboo bike frames. Bamboo is a strong and supple material and in many ways surpasses composite materials, titanium and aluminum.
The first bamboo bike was already manufactured in England in 1894 by the Bamboo Cycle Company and patents were also taken in the US to manufacture the bike. However, the success did not happen because of a growing industrialization where raw materials such as iron / aluminum became increasingly cheaper. The current trend of tailor-made, unique and environmentally friendly products means that the bamboo bike is strong on the rise. The fact that the bicycle is also recyclable and only alternative raw materials also adds value to the product.
